Is dat eigenlijk een echt woord?
Ach, maakt ook niet uit. Afgelopen weekend was het eindelijk zo ver: mooi weer! Hier in het noorden schijnt het niet zo mooi te zijn geweest, maar Marijn en ik waren een dagje naar Amsterdam en daar was het héérlijk. We hebben lekker in de zon op het terras gezeten, voor het eerst dit jaar. Wat was dat fijn!
Shorts weather.. last weekend the nice weather finally showed up! In the north it wasn’t that good I heard, but Marijn and I took a little trip to Amsterdam and it was gorgeous there. We sat on a terrace in the sun, for the first time this year. It was so good!
Voor we weggingen was ik zo helder om het fototoestel in mijn tas te gooien. Het leek me namelijk een prima gelegenheid om mijn nieuwe korte broek op de foto te zetten 🙂 Het is een aangepaste Colette Iris, met steekzakken en een rits middenachter. Dezelfde aanpassingen dus als dit exemplaar, maar dan zonder de omslagen aan de pijpen.
Before we left I had the brilliant idea of taking the camera with me. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to take pictures of my new shorts 🙂 It’s a modified Colette Iris, with slash pockets and a centre back zipper. I made the same adjustments as I did on these shorts, but without the cuffs.

De stof is een dikke stretchkatoen. Voor de binnenkant van de tailleband en de zakken gebruikte ik een restje stof van mijn polkadot NL6000. Door de stretch is het een heel comfortabel broekje geworden, ideaal ook voor het doel waar ik ‘m oorspronkelijk voor maakte: onze vakantie naar Japan! Daar gaan we rondreizen met de trein en kan ik dus niet heel veel bagage meenemen. Een zwarte korte broek leek mij dan ook een onmisbaar item. De ‘little black dress’ van ‘packing light’, zeg maar.
The fabric is a thick stretch cotton. For the waistband facing and the inside pockets I used some leftovers from my polkadot NL6000. The stretch makes them very comfortable, also ideal for the original purpose of the shorts: our holiday to Japan! We will travel by train there so I have to pack light. A pair of black shorts seemed like a must-have, the LBD of packing light, so to say.
Kijk eens aan, mijn eerste jeansnaad! Niet helemaal recht, ook niet helemaal even breed, maar ik denk niet dat iemand de naad in mijn kruis van zo dichtbij zal bekijken…
Look at that, my first ever flat felled seams! Not completely straight, not the same width, but I don’t think anyone will take so close a look at the seams in my crotch…

cute shorts–I like the pockets much better than the original ones. I’m gonna attempt making some casual pants using this pattern and just lengthing them… hope they turn out as well as your shorts! Enjoy Japan!!
thank you! Yes the original pockets are cute but not so practical and they tend to stick out a bit. I was wondering how lengthening the pattern into pants will affect the fit, so I’m looking forward to seeing yours!

Love the shorts! We had very nice weather in the north of Germany the past days, so maybe a pair of shorts is a great project to get back into the swing of sewing – finally!

Staat je goed! Leuk idee ook voor in Japan 🙂 Ik weet niet of je lang ben, dan trekken je benen daar vast wel wat aandacht. Is deze korte broek wat langer dan hot pants? Hot pants zitten lekker, maar vind ik net te kort om me in te vertonen :P, dus deze Iris leek me een goed alternatief!
Dank je wel Nienke, ik ben niet zo lang maar ik heb gehoord dat de Japanners klein zijn dus ik ben benieuwd! Iris is niet heel kort, ik heb het even voor je opgemeten en de binnenbeenlengte is 12 cm. Je kan er voor de zekerheid wat extra naadtoeslag aan knippen, dan weet je zeker dat ‘ie niet te kort wordt!
