La Maison Victor Mabel skirt

De stof voor dit rokje had ik een tijdje terug al bij de stoffenwinkel zien liggen, maar nam ‘m niet mee omdat ik er geen geschikt patroon voor kon bedenken. Het is een gobelin stof en dus erg dik en stug. Niet voor elk patroon geschikt. Maar toen ik de La Maison Victor van sept/okt in de winkel doorbladerde en de Mabel rok zag wist ik meteen dat dat hét patroon voor deze stof was. Deze stof, en een suede paspelbandje tussen de patroondelen.

I spotted this fabric in the fabric store earlier on, but then I didn’t buy it because I didn’t know what pattern to use it with. It’s a gobelin fabric so thick and stiff. But as soon as I saw the Mabel skirt in La Maison Victor magazine, I knew it was the perfect pattern for this fabric. This fabric, and some suede piping in the front seams.

Ik knipte een maat 36 in de taille uitlopend naar een 38 bij de heupen, conform de maattabel. En gelukkig een ruime naadtoeslag, want het was wel wat krap allemaal. Of het patroon klein valt of dat deze stof gewoon te stug is durf ik niet te zeggen, misschien wel een beetje van beide. Uiteindelijk heb ik een paar naden op 1 cm in plaats van de geknipte 1,5 centimeter genaaid en nu past het prima.

According to the size chart I needed a 36 at the waist and a 38 at the hips, so I graded sizes. Fortunately I cut a generous seam allowance because this skirt turned out preeeetty tight. I don’t know if the pattern runs small or if this fabric is just too stiff, maybe a bit of both. In the end I sewed some of the seams at 1 cm instead of 1,5 cm seam allowance and the fit is quite good now.

De panelen die je hier ziet zitten ook in het achterpand. Ik heb nog even getwijfeld of ik daar ook een paspelbandje in zou doen maar ik was er niet helemaal zeker van hoe lekker dat zou zitten, en dus deed ik het maar niet. Het rokje valt net een stukje onder mijn taille. En het is kort! Ik knipte drie centimeter zoomtoeslag en dat was maar goed ook, want ik heb de zoom na een keertje dragen opnieuw genaaid. Het voelde toch wel érg kort. Dat was nog voor deze foto’s. Dit rokje was eerst nog twee centimeter korter, zelf mijn onderjurkje piepte er onderuit. Dat werd toch wel wat te gortig 😉

The princess seams you see here are also in the back. I contemplated adding piping to those seams too but wasn’t sure it would be comfortable when sitting down, so I dedided not to (adding the piping that is, not sitting down). The top of the skirt sits just below my natural waist. And it is short! I cut on a three cm hem allowance and again I’m glad I did because I re-hemmed it after wearing it for a day. It was about two cm shorter before, and even my slipdress peeked out underneath it.

In het achterpand zit een blinde rits. Die is niet helemaal blind, maar met zo’n stugge stof durfde ik ‘m eigenlijk niet strakker in te zetten, bang dat ‘ie niet meer goed zou sluiten.

The zipper is in the back of the skirt and is an invisible one. Which isn’t invisible at all but because of the thick fabric I was a bit hesitant to sew closer to the zipper, out of fear it wouldn’t close properly.

Graag nog even uw speciale aandacht voor het doorlopende patroon in de stof. De kleuren lopen niet helemaal perfect door maar de lijnen wel en daar ben ik Vet Trots op 😀 Dat moet denk ik ook wel met stof met een patroon als dit anders krijg je er gegarandeerd een migraine-aanval van hehe.

Ladies and gentlemen, your special attention please for the pattern matching. Colourwise it isn’t perfect but the lines of the pattern are and I’m Pretty Proud of that. It’s also pretty much required with a pattern like this otherwise this skirt would probably be migraine inducing, hehe.

Het beleg is van een dunne denim, en aan de onderkant met de hand vastgezet aan het rokje. Datzelfde geldt voor de zoom. Eerst had ik die gewoon omgevouwen en vastgezet. Om zoveel mogelijk van de lengte van de zoomtoeslag te benutten maakte ik er een biaisbandje aan.

The facing is made of a thin denim, and catch stitched down. I did the same with the hem at first: serge, press under and catch stitch. But when I lengthened the skirt I wanted to use as much of the hem allowance as possible and used some bias tape.

Het was wat aanpassen her en der, maar nu heb ik een rokje waar ik erg blij mee ben. Ik ben nog steeds een beetje verliefd op de stof en de pasvorm is nu ook goed. Ik kan me zo voorstellen dat ik dit patroon nog wel wat vaker ga gebruiken. Door de banen is de pasvorm mooi (en makkelijk aan te passen), en je hebt voor dit rokje maar weinig stof nodig (60 cm!). Ook prima voor restjes stof dus, of voor het combineren van verschillende stofjes. Ik zit te denken om het patroon te verlengen tot een kokerrokje en daar het restje stof dat ik over heb van mijn wax print Edith jurk voor te gebruiken. Misschien wel met een splitje in één van de naden in het voorpand. Hmm, zo veel ideeën 😉

It took some adjusting but I ended up with a skirt I really like. I’m still in love with the fabric and the fit is pretty good now too. I’ll probably make this pattern again. The princess seams make it easy to fit and it doesn’t take much fabric (60 cm!), so great for using up remnants too. I’m thinking about lengthening it into a pencil skirt and use the leftover fabric from my wax print Edith dress for it. Maybe with a split in one of the front seams. Hmm, so many ideas 😉

Maxi mania

Twee jaar geleden maakte ik een maxi rok. Die draag ik nog steeds regelmatig. Zodra de zon schijnt en het is een beetje warm trek ik m uit de kast. Ideaal ook als het mooie weer je een beetje overvalt en je hebt je benen nog niet geschoren 🙂 Zo ook afgelopen donderdag. Toen realiseerde ik me dat ik er eigenlijk nog wel eentje wilde. Of twee, of drie, je weet hoe dat gaat. Vanaf het werk bestelde ik een paar viscose tricot stofjes zodat ik in het lange weekend lekker aan de slag zou kunnen. Vrijdag had ik ze al in huis, en op zondag ging ik er mee aan de slag.

Two years ago I made this maxi skirt. It gets worn quite regularly. As soon as the sun shines and the temperatures rise it goes into heavy rotation. Maxi skirts are also very convenient when you are a bit overtaken by warm weather and haven’t shaved your legs yet 🙂 I wore that skirt last Thursday and realised that I needed another one. Or two or three maybe, you know how that goes. At work I ordered some viscose jersey fabrics so that I could get to work in the long weekend we’re having. The fabric arrived on Friday and I sewed these skirts up on Sunday. How’s that for instant gratification?

Ik begon met deze paarse. Mijn collega’s vonden deze stof verschrikkelijk, maar ik vind ‘m mooi van lelijkheid 🙂 Ik had per ongeluk wat te weinig van deze stof besteld, maar gelukkig had ik nog een stuk breed elastiek liggen en was er een groot genoeg stuk over om daar een tunnel voor te maken. Het is niet heel netjes, maar dat zie je toch niet aan de buitenkant.

This purple panter print one was first. My co-workers really disliked this fabric but I think it’s pretty because it’s so ugly 🙂 I accidentally ordered too little fabric. but fortunately I had a piece of wide elastic and a big enough scrap to make a casing. It’s not the neatest one ever but it doesn’t show on the outside.

The pattern matching worked out fine if I may say so myself 🙂

Deze heeft een bijpassende elastieken tailleband zonder tunnel. Lekker makkelijk, snel klaar.

This one has a matching elastic waistband without a casing. Very easy and quick.

Last but not least ging ik met deze aan de slag:

Deze heeft een tailleband van een dubbelgeslagen stuk stof. Die kun je gewoon zo dragen maar je zou hem ook omgeslagen kunnen dragen, als bij een yoga broek. De realiteit is echter dat ik mijn band niet helemaal recht van draad knipte en dat ‘ie dan niet helemaal mooi wil zitten.

This one has a yoga-style waistband. It’s tight enough to wear it as is, but it can also fold over. Reality though is that I cut it a bit off grain and it doesn’t look good folded over.

In totaal heb ik denk ik 4 uurtjes werk gehad aan deze drie rokjes. Zijnaden en taillebanden op de lockmachine (behalve de rode, die deed ik op de naaimachine ivm de strepen) en de zoom op de coverlock. Ik koos bewust voor stoffen waar iets van zwart in zit zodat ik de draden niet hoefde te wisselen. Lekker simpel en snel, daar had ik ook wel even zin in na twee spijkerbroeken!

In total these skirts took about four hours. The side seams and waistbands are sewn on the loverlocker (except for the red one, which is made on the sewing machine because of the stripe matching) and hemmed on the coverlock. I deliberately chose fabrics with some black in it so I wouldn’t have to change the threads. Easy and fast, just what I needed after making two pairs of jeans!

Gertie’s pencil skirt

Sommige patronen bevallen zo goed dat ze een ‘go to’ worden voor een bepaald type kledingstuk. De kokerrok uit ‘Gerties new book for better sewing’ is zo’n patroon voor mij. Ik maakte hem al drie keer eerder: één met ruitjes, één met een tropische print, en één die anoniem in de kledingkast is verdwenen 🙂 Dit keer maakte ik ‘m van een stretch keper katoen, afgewerkt met een of ander laagje waardoor de goede kant van de stof bijna als een soort suede aanvoelt. Dat was niet wat mij zo trok in dit stofje – dat was de kleur en de print.

Some patterns just fit so well they become a TNT – Tried and True. For me, the pencil skirt from Gerties new book for better sewing is one of those patterns. It’s my go-to pencil skirt pattern. I made it three times so far: a plaid one, a loud tropical print one and an unblogged one. This time I used a stretch cotton twill with some sort of finish on the right side of the fabric that makes it feel a bit suede-like. That’s not what drew my attention to this fabric though – it was the colour and the print.

Na de drie eerdere versies besloot ik een kleine wijziging te doen aan het patroon. Ik haalde wat lengte van de bovenkant van het voorpand af. Anderhalve centimeter middenvoor, uitlopend tot niks aan de zijkanten. Daar bobbelde het bij mijn andere rokjes namelijk een beetje. Ik heb dat wel vaker bij rokjes.

After the previous three versions I decided to do a little alteration to the pattern. I took out some lenght at the top of the front. 1.5 Centimeter at center front, tapering to nothing at the side seams. On the other skirts I noticed there was some excess fabric there.

Verder veranderde ik de loopsplit in een verdekte loopsplit. De split in mijn Oonapalooza rokje is een paar keer gescheurd en dat wilde ik liever niet nog een keer. Bovendien ziet het er ook een beetje sjieker uit, al zeg ik het zelf.

I also changed the slit at the CB into a walking vent. The slit of my Oonapalooza skirt tore a few times and I didn’t want that to happen again. It also looks a bit more fancy I think.

Verder heb ik eigenlijk niet zoveel te vertellen over deze rok… Ja, nog dat de knopen aan de tailleband van de 100 yen shop in Japan komen. Heerlijke sneupwinkeltjes zijn dat!

There’s not much more to say about this skirt really… Just that the buttons on the waistband are from the 100 yen shop in Japan. Great places to snoop!

De print vind ik echt heel tof, maar ik heb bij het knippen van het patroon wel even opgelet dat ik geen schaamlap-boeketje creëerde 🙂

I love the print, but I did pay attention to avoid making a floral fig leaf while cutting the fabric 🙂

Ginger, take two

Dat lijkt er meer op! / That’s more like it!

Nog steeds een beetje ruimte maar ja, je wil ook wel eens eten/zitten/autorijden etc 🙂

Still a bit of room but hey, you might just want to eat/sit/drive a car etc 🙂

Na de vorige maakte ik het patroon een maatje kleiner (nu een 6), en nam ik wat extra breedte én lengte weg ter hoogte van de buik. Want het vorige rokje is niet alleen wat te groot, maar het had ook dit:

After the previous version I made the pattern a size smaller (now a 6) and also took a bit of extra width and length away at the belly. Because the previous one was not only too big, it also had this:

Een poeltje stof dat daar niet hoort. Toen ik erop ging letten zag ik dat dat bij heel veel versies aanwezig is. Zou het te maken hebben met het feit dat het patroon geen figuurnaadjes heeft maar dat die in de middenvoor-naad verwerkt zitten? Gelukkig was de oplossing vrij simpel: halve cm breedte weg en een cm lengte, die ik er aan de onderkant weer aanplakte. Toen was het weg!

A bit of fabric pooling. It looks like a lot of the Ginger skirts on the internet have this. Maybe this has something to do with the waist darts being blended into the center front seam? The solution was very easy: I removed half a cm of width and a cm of length, which I added back at the cf hem. Pooling gone!

De stof was een coupon van de Jan Sikkes hier, een mooie stevige stof voor nog geen tientje. Ik heb genoeg over om nog een rokje of korte broek te maken, dus het was flink waar voor m’n geld!

The farbric is a remnant from my local fabric store, it’s sturdy and a bit heavy and cost me less than € 10. I have enough left to make another skirt or a pair of shorts, so that’s a lot of value for my money!

Verder voegde ik steekzakken toe aan het patroon, die ik versierde met een sierstiksel. Het was voor het eerst dat ik echt doorstikgaren gebruikte en dat maakt echt wel een wereld van verschil.

I also added slash pockets, and used a decorative stitch on them. This was the first time I used proper topstitching thread and it makes a world of difference.

Verder zit er aan de achterkant een zichtbare rits. Een echte zeg maar, niet eentje die er gewoon vanaf de buitenkant opgestikt is. Ik gebruikte daarvoor deze tutorial maar maakte het mezelf moeilijk door de naad waar de rits komt met een lange steek vast te naaien in plaats van beide kanten te ‘staystitchen’. Oeps. Daardoor rafelt de stof een beetje aan de onderkant van de rits. Ik heb er een extra stiksel overheen genaaid waardoor het niet verder rafelt. Probleem opgelost 🙂

The zipper is an exposed one. A proper exposed one, not just one sewn on on the outside as I’ve done up untill now. I followed this tutorial but made things hard for myself by basting the seam where the zipper goes instead of staystitching both sides. Oops. It caused a bit of fraying at the bottom of the zip. I sewed a bar tack on it and it doesn’t unravel. Problem solved 🙂

En, gewoon omdat het leuk is, is het ook een stiekem Jungle January rokje geworden. Het restje stof komt van mijn allereerste Jungle January project, dat al lang geleden in de prullenbak belandde. Het restje stof heb ik wel altijd bewaard en dat kwam nu goed van pas. De zoom is (weer) afgewerkt met een biais bandje en gestikt.

And, just for fun, it’s secretly a Jungle January skirt. There was some fabric left from my first Jungle January project, which was binned a long time ago. I did keep the fabric and decided to use it now. The hem is faced with bias tape (again) and topstitched.

En bij een spijkerrokje horen natuurlijk cowboylaarzen. Eigenlijk zou ik er nog een rood-wit geblokt bloesje bij moeten maken, om de look af te maken. Hmm… wat een mooi excuus voor nog wat meer stoffen shoppen!

And with a denim skirt one obviously needs to wear cowboy boots. I should really make a red-white checkered shirt, to complete the look. Hmmm… what a lovely excuse for some more fabric shopping!

Colette Ginger

Het was liefde op het eerste gezicht met dit stofje op het Stoffenspektakel. Er lagen een paar couponnetjes van en ik nam er eentje mee. Het grappige is dat van de vier stoffen die ik er kocht, dit de eerste was die ik knipte, maar de laatste die ik ook daadwerkelijk naaide. Ach, sommige projecten moeten nou eenmaal even sudderen, denk ik zo.

It was love at first sight when I saw this fabric at the big fabric market when it was in town. There were a few remnants of it and I took one home. Funny thing is that out of the four fabrics I bought, this was the first one I cut up but the last one I’ve sewn up. Some projects just need a bit of stewing, I guess.

Ik maakte er een Colette Ginger van, met een paspelbandje in de taille en de rechte tailleband. De Ginger maakte ik al eerder, dus ik diepte het patroon op uit de verzameling en ging aan de slag.

I turned it into a Colette Ginger, used the straigh waistband option and added piping to it. I had used the pattern before so I dug it up out of the stash and went for it.

Het was wellicht beter geweest om die oude Ginger nog even aan te trekken (kun je nagaan hoe vaak ik die draag…) want hij is te groot verdorie!

It would probably have been better to try on that old Ginger before cutting my fabric (you can tell how often that one gets worn…) because this skirt is too big, damnit!

Gelukkig is daar een vrij simpele oplossing voor, zodat het toch nog een beetje draagbaar is.

Fortunately, there is an easy solution to still be able wear it.

Toch baal ik er wel een beetje van. En omdat dit rokje supernetjes in elkaar zit (het zorgde voor mijn 2016-doel van nieuwe technieken uitproberen) met het paspelband en al heb ik ook écht geen zin om het uit elkaar te halen en in te nemen.

I am a bit bummed though. And because this skirt is really well executed (it kickstarted my 2016-goal of trying new techniques) and has piping an all I really don’t want to take it apart to take it in.

Ach ja, je kunt niet altijd winnen jammer genoeg. Volgende keer beter, en dat weet ik zeker want ik heb gewoon nóg een Ginger gemaakt, in spijkerstof en een kleinere maat, en die is supergoed gelukt en past ook nog goed. Maar die bewaar ik even voor een volgende post, anders worden het wel érg veel foto’s.

Can’t win them all I guess. Better luck next time! I’m sure of that because right after this one I made another Ginger, in denim and a smaller size, which turned out just as good and fits good as well. I’ll save it for another post though, to prevent photo-overload.

Another half circle

Niet super interessant, maar ik maakte afgelopen weekend nog een halve cirkelrok. De stof die ik voor deze met stolpplooi kocht moest nog drogen en ik kon echt niet langer wachten om achter de naaimachine te kruipen. Uit de krochten van mijn voorraad diepte ik deze stof op, waar ik eerder een jasje van maakte dat bijna direct naar de kringloop ging omdat het compleet mijn stijl niet was. Ik had nog ruim 1,5 meter van de stof over, maar wist totaal niet wat ik ermee moest maken. Tot afgelopen vrijdag dus.

Nothing too interesting, but I made another half circle skirt last weekend. The fabric I bought for this one was still drying but I couldn’t wait any longer to get sewing. So I dove up this fabric from the bottom of my stash. I have had it for a long time, made a jacket out of it once but that one went to the thrift store immediately because it totally wasn’t my style. I had about a meter and a half left and no idea what to do with it. Untill last Friday, obviously.

Hier een close-up van de stof. Het zijn bruine ingeweven strepen op een blauw/zwarte ondergrond, met groene ingeweven bloemen. Geen idee wat voor materiaal het is, maar het was best lastig te verwerken. Het glibberde en gleed alle kanten op en rafelde ontzettend. Gelukkig zitten er niet zoveel naden in een halve cirkelrok en met een biaisbandje is de zoom ook snel gemaakt. Zonder doorstikken nog dit keer, zoals je kunt zien.

Here’s the fabric in close-up. It consists of dark brown stripes woven in an blue/black base. The green flowers are also woven in. I haven’t got a clue of the fabric content, but it was a bit difficult to work with. Shifty as hell and fraying like crazy. Forntunately a half circle doesn’t have too many seams and a hem is quickly done with the help of some bias. Without understitching, as you can see.

Tsja, wat moet ik er verder nog over zeggen? Ik ben blij dat ik eindelijk een goede bestemming heb gevonden voor dit stofje want ik vind ‘m wel erg gaaf. Winters ook, dus perfect voor deze tijd van het jaar. Met panty dan, uiteraard. De tailleband is een beetje strak uitgevallen, ik denk dat de vlieseline een beetje gekrompen is bij het opstrijken. Of zou dat misschien toch de uitgebreide lunch zijn geweest? 😉

So, what else is there to say about this skirt? I’m happy I finally found a good use for this fabric as I really like it. Perfect for the upcoming winter, with tights then obviously. The waistband turned out a wee bit small, perhaps the interfacing shrunk a bit when ironing it on. Or maybe it was just the big lunch I ate? 😉

Dit was dus eigenlijk anti-stress-rok nummer 1. Wat maak jij als je even een ‘quick fix’ nodig hebt?

Oonapalooza

Ken je de Sewcialists? Er is een blog, en een ‘firehose‘. De firehose is leuk om een keer te bekijken, je kan je blog eraan koppelen en het is een soort feed van alle nieuwe posts van gekoppelde blogs. Op de blog is er elke maand een thema waaraan je mee kan doen. Soms is het een kleur, zoals Pink April en Blue February, en deze maand is het Oonapalooza!

De stof ervoor kocht ik een poosje terug tijdens mijn lunchpauze, op de stoffenmarkt in Emmen. Vervelend hoor, een wekelijkse stoffenmarkt vlakbij je werk 😉

Ja, het is fel en het is een opvallende print. Perfect voor dit thema, want als je op Oona haar blog kijkt dan zie je al snel dat bijna alles wat ze maakt daarom draait. Je ziet dan ook dat ze goeie vriendjes is met de camera, iets wat ik nog wel eens lastig vind. Daarom besloot ik om een beetje te experimenteren met ‘poses’ vanmiddag en dat is volgens mij best aardig gelukt!

Yes, it is bright and it has a loud print. Perfect for the occasion, because as you can see on her blog Oona’s middle names are probably ‘bright’ and ‘loud print’. You can also see that she and the camera are good friends, something I struggle with sometimes. So this afternoon I decided to experiment a bit with a bit of ‘posing’ and I think it turned out quite well!

Een kokerrokje! Het patroon komt uit Gerties new book for better sewing en ik gebruikte het al eerder voor dit rokje. Net als vorige keer maakte ik maat 6. Dit keer moest ik het iets innemen bij de heupen omdat de stof wat stretch heeft.

A pencil skirt! The pattern is from Gerties new book for better sewing and I used it before to make this skirt. Just like last time I made the size 6. This time I had to take it in a bit at the hips because this fabric has some stretch.

Het zit heerlijk door die stretch, nauwsluitend maar niet té strak. En ik vind de stof zo gaaf, felle kleuren, bloemen, rode panterprint, heerlijk!

It’s a very comfortable skirt. Figure hugging but not too tight. And I LOVE the fabric, the bright colours, the flowers, the red panther print, fabulous!

Nou, dit is ook wel een hele gewaagde pose inderdaad…

Ik weet niet zo goed wat ik verder nog over mijn rokje moet zeggen 🙂 het is een vrij simpel model, met een onzichtbare rits en een knoop op de tailleband middenachter en 8 figuurnaden die zorgen voor de vorm. De zoom naaide ik met de hand en hetzelfde geldt voor de binnenkant van de tailleband.

I don’t really know what else to say about this skirt 🙂 It’s a fairly simple shape, it closes with an invisible zip at the back and a button on the waistband, and it has 8 waist darts which provide the shaping. The seam is handsewn and the same goes for the waistband facing.

Zullen we het ook nog even over de knoop hebben? Hij lag al een poosje in mijn voorraad te wachten op een bestemming, en ik ben blij dat ik die eindelijk gevonden heb. Ik kreeg deze knoop van Tine twee jaar geleden bij de Summer Sewing Swap. Dat maakt dit toch een écht community-project 🙂

Can we talk about the button a bit please? It has been in my stash for a while, waiting patiently for it’s destination, and I am glad I finally found it. I got this button from Tine two years ago at the Summer Sewing Swap. So this is a real community-project 🙂

Het mooie van zoveel kleuren in één rokje is dat er ook veel van mijn vestjes bijpassen. Good old zwart natuurlijk, maar ook deze twee:

Ik gok dat ik nog veel plezier aan dit rokje ga beleven. Bedankt alle Sewcialists, voor de nooit eindigende inspiratie en uiteraard ook Oona, die mijn stofjes-radar liet aanslaan op dit stofje dat ik anders echt nooit uitgezocht zou hebben. En voor het zetje om uit mijn comfort zone voor de camera te stappen!

I think this will be a skirt that gets worn often. Thank you, all Sewcialists for the neverending inpsiration and thank you Oona, for letting my fabric-radar detect this fabric which I would never have chosen otherwise. And also for giving me the push to get out of my comfort zone in front of the camera!

Me Made May final episode

Het zit erop, Me Made May! En het was leuker en makkelijker dan ik dacht. Ik vond het niet alleen zelf leuk om wat meer na te denken over de kleren die ik aantrek en over de combinaties waarin ik dat doe, maar ik vond het ook superleuk om te zien hoe jullie je zelfgemaakte kleren combineren. Inspirerend!

It’s done, Me Made May! It was easier and more fun than I thought it would be. Not only to be more thoughtful of the outfits I put together, but also to see the way everyone combines the things they make. Inspiring!

Day 23

Different directions dress nog een keer. In eerste instantie vest-loos, maar het was wat frisjes die dag en dus kocht ik in mijn lunchpauze dit mintgroene vestje.

Different directions dress again. At first without a cardigan but it was a bit chilly that day so I bought this cardigan on my lunch break.

Day 24

Alweer de zwarte korte broek, in een hotelkamer in Osnabruck. Spontaan een weekendje weg 🙂 mooi stadje, niet heel groot maar wel leuk om een keer heen te gaan.

The black shorts again, in a hotel room in Osnabruck. A spontaneous weekend trip 🙂 it’s a lovely town, not very big but nice to wander around in.

Day 26

De Camiii. Dit is imo een van de mooiste jurken die ik heb gemaakt maar ik draag m niet vaak. De rok is vrij vol en dat voelt een beetje ‘overdressed’. De 26e deed ik m toch aan naar het werk en daar kreeg ik zo veel complimentjes dat ik m denk ik toch maar wat vaker uit de kast trek 🙂

My Camiii. This is imo one of the prettiest dresses I’ve made, but I don’t wear it often. The skirt is quite full and it feels a bit overdressed. On the 26th I did wear it to work and it got so many compliments that I think I’ll pull it out of the closet more regularly 🙂

Day 27

Een A-lijn rokje gebaseerd op de Jenny van Burdastyle. Toen ik m maakte had ‘ie een hoge taille maar inmiddels valt ‘ie wat lager. Met een strak shirtje eroverheen zit dat niet helemaal mooi maar ach, je kan niet alles hebben.

An A-line skirt based on the Jenny pattern from Burdastyle. It was high-waisted when I made it but sits a bit lower now. The fit looks a bit off because of the tight shirt I’m wearing over it but well, you just can’t have it all right?

Day 28

Moss-tard mini. Een een panty. In mei. Boooeee.

Day 29

Geen panty meer, een stuk beter! En een spijkerrokje van Simplicity 2451. Heerlijk patroon.

No tights, much better! And a denim skirt, made from Simplicity 2451. Such a great pattern.

Day 31

Mijn favoriete MMM14 foto. De Moss-tard mini nogmaals, dit keer in Colmar. Dat is een stuk betere achtergrond dan mijn naaikamer of de lift op het werk! Colmar is een prachtige stad, echt een aanrader. De omgeving is ook erg mooi. Wij waren er een lang weekend en deden een rondje wijnproeven en een flinke wandeltocht door de bergen. Naast slenteren door de stad en dorpjes en heerlijk eten uiteraard. Koken en wijn maken, dat kun je wel aan de Fransen overlaten!

My favorite MMM14 pic. Featuring my Moss-tard mini again, this time in Colmar. This is a much better backdrop than my sewing room or the elevator at work! Colmar is such a pretty town, really worth a visit. The surrounding area is gorgeous too. We were there for a long weekend and visited some chateaus for wine tasting and hiked in the mountains. And of course wandered around town and the villages and having wonderful, wonderful dinners. Cooking and wine making, you can surely leave that up to the French!

Dat was het dan! Een maand lang geen outfit herhalen. Het leek me best pittig, maar viel me alleszins mee. Ik heb aan deze maand een bult inspiratie voor verschillende outfits overgehouden. En ik denk dat ik inmiddels ook wel over het ‘alles wat ik draag is zwart, blauw of spijkerstof’ issue heen ben, als ik terugkijk naar de foto’s. Wat heb jij opgestoken van Me Made May?

So, that was it! A month of no outfit repeats. I thought it would be difficult but really it was not. I take away from Me Made May a lot of inspiration for combining new outfits. And I think looking back at the pics I can safely say that ‘everything I wear is either black, blue or denim’ is not an issue anymore. What did Me Made May teach you?

Day 15

De kokerrok uit Gerties new book for better sewing. Ik draag deze niet vaak, omdat ik niet zo goed wist hoe ik ‘m moest combineren. En omdat de tailleband na de lunch wat te strak was als ik zat 😁 Maar mijn nieuwe paarse vest past er perfect bij en of de lunch was niet zo groot of mijn taille is iets kleiner geworden want ook na de lunch kon ik nog comfortabel zitten. Hoera!

My pencil skirt from Gerties new book for better sewing. I have worn this skirt only twice since making it, because I didn’t know what to pair it with and because the waistband got a bit uncomfortable when I sat down after lunch 😁 I discovered that my new purple cardigan is a perfect match and either my lunch was not that big or my waist has shrunk a bit because I could still sit comfortably after lunch. Hurray!

Allemachtig, dit is mijn 100e blogpost! Ik kan me de eerste nog goed herinneren. Jeetje wat vond ik dat spannend, op ‘publish’ drukken. Nu, bijna drie jaar later, ga ik dat voor de honderdste keer doen. Reden voor een feestje!

Holy sh*t, this is my 100th blogpost! I can remember the first one, god I found pressing that ‘publish’ button scary. Now, almost 3 years later, I’m going to do it for the hundreth time. This calls for a little party!

Me Made May

Maar eerst de samenvatting van de eerste week Me Made May. Ik had met mezelf afgesproken dat ik 4 dagen in de week iets zelfgemaakts zou dragen, zonder combinaties te herhalen.

But first the roundup of the first week of Me Made May. I pledged to wear something me-made 4 days a week, without repeating combinations.

‘Someting old, something new’ jurk / dress.

Ik won dit patroon in een give-away van Dottie Doodle. Ik kreeg haar berichtje op een ontzettende rotdag en dat deed me zo goed toen. Als ik deze jurk zie dan herinner ik me weer dat er na slechte dagen of dingen altijd weer goede komen. Een echte feel good jurk dus!

I won this pattern in a give-away from Dottie Doodle. I received her message about that on a particularly bad day and it really cheered me up then. Everytime I see this dress it reminds me that bad days or things will always be followed by good ones. A proper feel good dress!

The fabric on the left is a cotton voile, pretty see-through, 2m by 1,40 m and the right one is a thicker cotton, 1,50m by a little over a meter. Wanna play?
