Soms heb je ineens zo’n vlaag van inspiratie en weet je opeens precies wat je wilt gaan maken, en van welke stof. Dat had ik al eerder een keer bij mijn maxirok, en ook na het maken van de flamingo jurk bij deze jurk. Opeens zat het idee in mijn hoofd en het liet me niet meer los. En dus ging ik maar aan de slag, want wat moet je anders?

Do you know how you sometimes get a whiff of inpsiration and you suddenly know exactly what to make and with which fabric? This happened with my maxi skirt and after finishing the flamingo dress it happened with this dress too. The idea was stuck in my head and wouldn’t go away. So I went for it, what else was there to do?

Het is weer een versie van mijn basispatroon. De inspiratie voor de halslijn kwam van een afbeelding op de achterkant van “Gerties new book for better sewing“. De kapmouwtjes zijn iets wijder gemaakt, het leek me leuk als de vloeiende vorm van de halslijn daarin terug zou komen. De rok komt van de Mortmain jurk van Gather (vandaar ook de naam van deze post). Dat patroon gebruikte ik al eerder voor een wax print stof en door de stijfheid van de stof komen de plooien mooi uit. Om toch een beetje variatie aan te brengen naaide ik de plooien dit keer andersom. En, omdat ik even geen rekening had gehouden met de tailleband in de Mortmain, is de rok een stukje korter dan de andere.

This is another adaptation of my basic bodice pattern. The inspiration for the neckline came from a picture on the back of “Gerties new book for better sewing“. The cap sleeves are a bit more exagerated because I thought it would be nice for them to have the same flowing line as the neckline. The skirt pattern is from Gather’s Mortmain dress (hence the name of this post). I used that pattern for another dress from wax print fabric and knew that the stiffness of the fabric would hold the pleats very well. This time I reversed the pleats, for a bit of variation. And, because I forgot to take into consideration that the Mortmain has a waistband, the skirt is a bit shorter.

Aan de achterkant zette ik er een ‘exposed’ rits in, gewoon omdat het kan 🙂 Wel een goed idee om die de volgende keer even helemaal dicht te doen als ik foto’s maak…

It has an exposed zipper on the back, just because 🙂 And yes, I will check if it’s zipped up all the way to the top before taking pictures next time…

De stof komt van een markt in Amsterdam, er was daar een stoffenkraam die allemaal wax prints verkocht voor 5 euro per meter. Ik snap achteraf niet zo goed waarom ik maar twee stoffen heb gekocht daar. Misschien omdat ik er nog de hele dag mee in een plastic tas moest sjouwen? Anyway, ik was meteen verliefd op de kleuren. Voor het bovenlijfje heb ik wel een beetje gelet op de plaatsing van de print. Ik kon me nog een bepaald tv-momentje herinneren…

The fabric was bought at a market in Amsterdam, there was this place that sold all kinds of wax prints for 5 euros a meter. Looking back I cannot believe I bought only two fabrics. Maybe because I had to carry them around with me all day? Anyway, I fell in love with those colours immediately. The print did cause me to be a bit carefull with the pattern placement, because there was a certain tv-moment I remembered…

Juist, het leek me beter om dat te voorkomen 😉

Zoals je ziet heeft de zoom een biaisbandje gekregen. Verder zijn alle naden met de lockmachine afgewerkt. ~~Ik was te lui om de draden te wisselen~~ wit leek me wel een geschikte kleur, er zit immers ook wit in de stof. Het beleg is een alles-in-één-beleg. Ik vind het zo tof dat het er dan zo netjes uit komt te zien.

As you can see the hem was made with some biastape. The seams have been finished witht the overlocker. ~~I was too lazy to change the threads~~ I thought white was an appropriate colour since there is some white in the fabric, too. The neckline and shoulders are finished with an all-in-one facing. I love how neat this looks.

En nog een keer de achterkant. De rits kan heus tot bovenaan dicht 😉 Ik ben blij met deze jurk!

100!

Allemachtig, dit is mijn 100e blogpost! Ik kan me de eerste nog goed herinneren. Jeetje wat vond ik dat spannend, op ‘publish’ drukken. Nu, bijna drie jaar later, ga ik dat voor de honderdste keer doen. Reden voor een feestje!

Holy sh*t, this is my 100th blogpost! I can remember the first one, god I found pressing that ‘publish’ button scary. Now, almost 3 years later, I’m going to do it for the hundreth time. This calls for a little party!

Me Made May

Maar eerst de samenvatting van de eerste week Me Made May. Ik had met mezelf afgesproken dat ik 4 dagen in de week iets zelfgemaakts zou dragen, zonder combinaties te herhalen.

But first the roundup of the first week of Me Made May. I pledged to wear something me-made 4 days a week, without repeating combinations.

Ik won dit patroon in een give-away van Dottie Doodle. Ik kreeg haar berichtje op een ontzettende rotdag en dat deed me zo goed toen. Als ik deze jurk zie dan herinner ik me weer dat er na slechte dagen of dingen altijd weer goede komen. Een echte feel good jurk dus!

I won this pattern in a give-away from Dottie Doodle. I received her message about that on a particularly bad day and it really cheered me up then. Everytime I see this dress it reminds me that bad days or things will always be followed by good ones. A proper feel good dress!

The fabric on the left is a cotton voile, pretty see-through, 2m by 1,40 m and the right one is a thicker cotton, 1,50m by a little over a meter. Wanna play? Kick ass dress

Ik hou van schoenen. Ik hou van jurken. Een combinatie van die twee? Kom maar door!

I love shoes. I love dresses. A combination of those two? Bring it on!

Dit is de Mortmain jurk van Gather Kits. Ik kocht ‘m vanwege de geplooide rok, dat leek me een leuke afwisseling van de vele gerimpelde rokken die ik de laatste tijd maakte. In theorie zou ik het patroon daarvoor natuurlijk zelf kunnen maken, ware het niet dat ik ~~daar te lui voor ben~~ rekenen niet mijn sterkste kant is. En hey, we moeten de economie ook een beetje stimuleren toch? Minister Dijsselbloem zal wel blij met mij zijn 🙂

This is the Mortmain dress from Gather Kits. I bought it because I like the pleated skirt. Thought it would be a nice deviation from the many gathered ones I made recently. In theory I could have drafted one myself but I’m just ~~too lazy to do that~~ not that good a math. And hey, we have to keep the economy going right? Our minister of finance will be happy with me 🙂

Ik ben ook blij met deze jurk, alleen niet met hoe het bovenlijfje zit. De neklijn wijkt een beetje, vind ik te hoog en te smal ter hoogte van de oksels. Mijn okselflubbertjes piepen eruit 😦 Bij een volgende versie wil ik de schouders iets breder maken zodat het een soort kleine kapmouwtjes worden.

I am happy too with this dress, just not with the upper bodice. The neckline gapes a bit and is also too high for my liking. Also those pesky bits of armpit fat (is thre an official name for them?) peek out 😦 So in the next version I’ll widen the shoulders to make little capsleeves.

Na deze verbeterpunten over naar het positieve gedeelte. Bij dit patroon hoort een ‘exposed’ rits. Door de fijne instructies is die heel goed gelukt. Aangezien dit de eerste keer was dat ik een dergelijke rits inzette ben ik daar best een beetje trots op!

So after those points of improvement over to the positive parts. This pattern calls for an exposed zipper. The well-written instructions make it very easy to insert it, and it came out very well. This being my first exposed zipper makes me quite proud of that!

Ja die onderkant van de rits dat is niet zo’n succes. Ach, aan de binnenkant ziet niemand dat toch? Ik streek wat vlieseline op de tailleband omdat zij dat aanraadde in haar post over de Mortmain. Verder heb ik de tailleband doorgestikt en de zoom met de hand genaaid. Lekker in de zon, op het balkon. Ik vond het nog leuk ook. Serieus. Met de hand ingezette ritsen, handgezoomde jurken, zou ik iets onder de leden hebben? 🙂

Yeah that bottom of the zip is not that neat. Ah well, it’s on the inside, who cares? I put interfacing on the waistband because she recommended it. The waistband is topstitched and the hem is stitched by hand. Seriously. Hand-picked zippers, handsewn hems, who have I become? 🙂

De achterkant is prima. Ook hier wijkte de halslijn maar dat heb ik gefixt door aan de bovenkant bij de rits de boel in te nemen.

The back fits just fine. There was some gaping on the top too but I fixed that by taking it in at centre back.

Dus. Weer een nieuwe jurk 🙂 met een roze accent dus hierbij ook mijn bijdrage aan ‘Pink april‘. Zou het ook nog tellen als een late ‘blue february’ en ‘green december’?

So there it is, another new dress 🙂 with pink accents so this is also my contribution to ‘pink april‘. Do you think I could also make this a late entry to ‘blue february’ and ‘green december’?

En ja ik hoor jullie denken, wat is er toch gebeurd met het buiten foto’s maken? Ik heb het geprobeerd jongens, echt! Op de parkeerplaats achter mijn huis. Maar ik voelde me zo opgelaten dat ik maar weer naar binnen ben gegaan. Maar: ik heb wel bewijs dat ik het heb geprobeerd 😉

Oh and I hear you wonder, that happend to taking pictures outside? I tried you guys, I really did. On the parking behind my house. But I felt so awkward that I went inside again. I do however have photographic evidence 😉
