Tsja, de titel zegt het al een beetje, ik twijfel over deze jurk. Ik wil hem héél graag leuk vinden, want ik vind hem wel mooi, maar de pasvorm is gewoon niet je van het en daardoor voelt ‘ie niet helemaal goed.

Well, as the title of this post suggests, I’m not sure I really like this dress. I really want to like it, because I think it turned out pretty, but the fit is just that bit off and it doesn’t feel good when I wear it.

De combinatie van stoffen heb ik schaamteloos gekopieerd van iemand op Facebook. Beide stoffen zijn punto di roma’s van Driessen stoffen. Het witte elastieken paspel komt van de Jan Sikkes in Leeuwarden. Het patroon is jurk 6 uit de Knipmode van februari. Dit is maat 38. Ik haalde en centimeter lengte uit het bovenlijf tussen oksel en buste en verlaagde de halslijn naar die van maat 54. In eerste instantie verhoogde ik de armsgaten met een centimeter maar dat haalde ik er later weer af. Als laatste nam ik de taille wat in, zodat die mooi aansluit.

The combination of fabrics is a shameless copy of someone on Facebook. Both fabrics are ponte knits from Driessen fabrics. The white elastic piping is from my local fabric shop. The pattern is dress 6 from the february Knipmode issue. It’s a size 38, and I removed a centimetre of length between armhole and bust. I also lowered the neckline to that of the size 54. At first I raised the armholes by a centimetre too, but later removed that. Finally I took it in a bit at the waist.

The sleeves have a dart at the top, which is a nice feature.

Het zijaanzicht is één van de dingen die ik niet zo tof vind aan deze jurk. Ik weet niet of het door de patroondelen komt of door het paspelelastiek, maar het ziet er een beetje raar uit vind ik. Het teveel aan lengte op de rug werkt ook niet echt mee. Bovendien denk ik dat de halslijn aan de achterkant iets lager had moeten zijn, want de jurk trekt wat naar achteren.

The side view is one of the thinks I’m not too fond of. I don’t know if it’s the pattern lines or the elastic piping but it looks a bit weird. The excess length on the back doesn’t help either and I think the back neckline is slightly too high because the dress pulls backwards a bit.

De mensen van de Knip zeiden dat het model afkleedt als je de buitenste stof van een donkerdere kleur maakt… misschien moeten ze dan het middelste patroondeel bij de heupen ook wat minder breed maken 🙂

The people at Knipmode said that this dress makes you look slimmer if you use a darker fabric for the outer pieces… Perhaps they could have made the centre piece a bit smaller at the hips then 🙂

Ook bij deze jurk zitten de armsgaten weer wat raar, net als bij de groene die ik maakte. Door de twee verschillende kleuren valt het ook nog eens extra op, of zit dat misschien alleen in mijn hoofd?

This dress also has the armhole-issue that my green dress had. The two different fabrics make it even more noticeable. Or maybe that’s just my inner perfectionist acting up and it’s not that bad?

Het laatste wat ik te zeuren heb is dat ik de rok teveel taps vind toelopen. Iets rechter zou beter staan denk ik.

My final complaint is that the skirt tapers in a bit too much for my taste. I think it would look better if it were just a bit more straight.

Is er dan niks waar ik tevreden over ben? Ja zeker wel, de kleuren en de zoom:

Maar goed, even zonder geintjes. Ik hoor graag jouw objectieve mening over deze jurk. Ik heb nogal eens last van perfectionisme en eerlijk gezegd heb ik in geen jaren zo’n nauwsluitende jurk gedragen. Een strak bovenlijfje wel, maar niet een complete jurk. Het kan dus ook zomaar zijn dat ik er gewoon even aan moet wennen. En daarom: meningen graag! U wordt bij voorbaat hartelijk bedankt 🙂

But all joking aside: I would really like to hear your opinion about this dress. I have these perfectionist tendencies and to be honest it has been years since I wore a fitted dress like this. A fitted bodice is familiar territory, but not a complete dress. It may as well be that I’m just not used to it. So, honest opinions please! Thanks in advance 🙂

Het model is jurk 24 uit de Knipmode van januari ’17. Marianne van Foxgloves and thimbles bedacht onlangs de Knipmode Challenge, om wat meer te maken uit de magazines die ze had. Aangezien ik een kort abonnement heb genomen besloot ik om mee te doen. Mijn voornemen is om uit elk nummer van mijn abonnement in ieder geval één kledingstuk te maken. Dit is al het tweede item dat ik maak uit deze editie, een goed begin dus.

This is dress 24 from the january ’17 issue of Knipmode. Marianne of Foxgloves and thimbles recently came up with the Knipmode Challenge, to put those magazines to good use. At the moment I have a short subscription so I decided to make at least one garment from every magazine. This is already the second item I made from this issue so I guess that’s a good start.

Het is een vrij simpel patroontje: nauwsluitend model, vier figuurnaden en een rechte rok. De blikvanger is natuurlijk het kraagje, een soort variant op de sjaalkraag. Het patroon is voor tricot stoffen en ik gebruikte een flesgroene punto di roma. Ik zie deze kleur er op dit moment niet meer tussenstaan maar misschien komt ‘ie nog wel weer terug.

It’s quite a simple pattern really: close-fitting, four darts and a straight skirt. Obviously the collar is the main feature. It’s basically a variation on the shawl collar. It’s a pattern for jersey fabrics and I used a bottle green ponte knit.

Dit was de eerste keer sinds jaren dat ik weer een wat uit de Knip maakte. Qua maat was het een beetje een gokje. Volgens de maattabel heb ik een maat 38 nodig bij de buste en heupen en een 36 taille. Ik maakte een 38 met de gedachte dat ik die nog wel in kon nemen bij de taille indien nodig. Uiteindelijk bleek die vanaf de heupen omhoog overal te groot en er zat teveel lengte in het bovenlijf. Die eerste versie was niet meer te redden, de enige oplossing was een nieuw stuk stof te bestellen en opnieuw te beginnen. Uiteindeilijk is dit een maat 36, uitlopend tot een 38 op de heup, met de volgende aanpassingen:

• het bovenlijf tussen de oksel en de buste 1 centimeter verkort;
• de figuurnaden voor 2 centimeter naar middenvoor verplaatst, aan de bovenkant met 2 centimeter verlengd en aan de onderkant met 5 centimeter;
• de figuurnaden achter aan de onderkant met 8 centimeter verlengd;
• tussen taille en heup een klein beetje ingenomen omdat er een deuk in mijn heupen zit;
• de schoudernaad een centimeter verkort;
• de rok met 3 centimeter verlengd.

This was the first time in years that I made something with a Knipmode pattern. They don’t provide finished garment measurements so the size as a bit of a gamble. The size chart says I need a 38 at bust and hips and a 36 at the waist. I made a 38 first, figuring I could always take it in at the waist if needed. That dress was too big from the hips up and there was too much length in the bodice, there was no way I could alter it to fit. The only solution was to order some more fabric and start again. This time I made a 36 graded out to 38 at the hips, with these adjustments:

• shortened the bodice 1 centemetre between armhole and bust;
• moved the front darts 2 centimetres to center front and lengthened them with 2 centimetres at the top and 5 at the bottom;
• lenthened the back darts at the bottom with 8 centimetres;
• took in the side seams between waist and hip a bit to follow my hip ‘dip’/curve;
• shortened the shoulder seam 1 centimetre;
• lengthened the skirt 3 centimetres.

Dat is al een stuk beter qua pasvorm maar ik ben nog niet helemaal uit-aangepast. Ik ga nog een klein beetje lengte uit het rugpand halen en de armsgaten nog wat aanpassen.

That was way better when it comes to fit, but I’m not done altering yet. I need to take out a tiny bit of length from the back and adjust the armholes.

De naad zit niet op de goede plek. Ik ga deze ‘narrow upper chest‘ aanpassing proberen, maar dan zonder de wijdte weer aan te tekenen in de oksel. Het patroon loopt daar wat in een puntje en die ruimte heb ik niet nodig.

That seam is not in the right place. I’m going to try this narrow upper chest adjustment, but without adding the width at the armpit. The side seam curves out too much for me at that point so taking out that width will be good.

En dan, een rood exemplaar maken. En een blauwe misschien. Fijn stofje toch, dat punto di roma, een soort joggingsstof voor naar het werk 🙂

And then, make a red version. And a blue one perhaps.  It;s a lovely fabric, ponte. Kind of like sweatshirting suited for work 🙂
