“Oh, I really like this, but it’s not really something for me” that was what I thought when I saw Jasper, the new pattern from Paprika Patterns. I saw Rachel’s version. And Gillian’s. Those were looking very good! And then there was a lightbulb moment: what if I turned it into a jacket, with a front zipper?
And so I made an incredibly warm and snugly fleece jacket. This is not secret pajamas, this is secret sleeping bag 🙂
Simple as that!
To turn the dress into this jacket I changed the pattern a bit:
– I didn’t cut the front bodice, cowl and hem band on the fold but cut them as separate pieces with 1,5 cm seam allowance. Which I used to put in the zipper. Easy as that!
– For additional comfort I added thumbholes in the sleeve bands. I transferred the sleeve seam from the back to the front so it’s in the right place for my thumbs.
– Finally I added a piece of elastic and some cord end toggles to the cowl
The upper part is a size 3 with a 2 cm FBA, and a size 4 at the hips. The fit is pretty good! It’s just a bit big in the back.
And a bit tight at the bum 😉 but that’s due to the fabric I think. Which by the way is a ‘heavy fleece’ from Rijs Textiles. When they say ‘heavy’, the mean ‘heavy’. I ordered two lenghts (also the mustard yellow) and those two filled up the entire washing machine. As far as I am concerned they might as well call it ‘heavenly fleece’ as it is sooo soft and was super easy to sew with.
Details
The princess seams are topstitched on both sides because I couldn’t press them
Paspelzakken / Welt pockets
Duimgaten. Waarom zitten die niet in alle mouwen? / thumb holes. Every sleeve should have them.
I also put in a zip guard
I couldn’t be happier with this jacket. It so warm and soft. Marijn and I are getting into hiking, all serious with hiking boots and hiking trousers and all. I think this jacket will be perfect for that! I have already made another version, this time with the hood. More on that one soon 🙂
Heerlijk he? Bijna.
haha biiijjjna. Heerlijk patroon is ‘t.
Genius idea! I love this! I like that it’s long, too. I get so cold in the winter and this is the perfect length.
Thank you! Yay for no more cold upper legs 🙂
hoppa, aan de wandel!
de paden op, de lanen in 😉
Brilliant hack! Thanks for sharing, I might do something similar with my coco pattern 😀
Thank you 🙂 That’s a great idea!
Ooh, I’m in the process of making a polarfleece jacket as we speak and I’m *definitely* borrowing that zipper guard idea! Thanks for the inspiration 🙂
yay! If you do so, just cut a long strip on the fold instead of two separate pieces, it will look much better!
Isn’t fleece the warmest and softest of them all? Beautiful result, you have actually made a new pattern here!
Thank you 🙂 it really is, so soft!
Prachtig! ik vind het super gelukt!
Dank je wel!
This is so awesome Inge!! I really love it, I might have to copy it! And great job on the fit, too, it fits beautifully through the bust.
Thanks Lisa! It was quite easy to adjust with the help of your tutorial. The pattern is really great, everyting went together very easily.
Love it!!!
Thank you!
Wow! This looks awesome and so, so snuggly!
Thank you! It is actually 🙂
