Naar dit patroon heb ik een hele tijd uitgekeken. Ik heb één kort vestje, dat ik ooit bij de Hema kocht. Ik heb het al heel lang en ik draag het erg vaak, omdat het zo mooi past bij getailleerde jurken met een volle rok. De dag dat dat vest stukgaat is een dag die ik vrees, haha.

I’ve been looking forward to this pattern for a while. I have one cropped cardigan, that I wear a lot because it goes so well with full-skirted dresses. The day that cardigan dies is a day I dread, haha.

Maar nu niet meer.

Want ik kan er nu zelf oneindig veel maken, met dank aan Cake Patterns! Dit is de Cocoa shrug. Er zijn nog niet zoveel gemaakte exemplaren te vinden op internet, maar het is een geniaal patroon. Je hebt maar weinig stof nodig (80 centimeter!) En je kan hem precies op je eigen maat maken.

Because now I can make an infinite number of them, thanks to Cake Patterns! This is the Cocoa Shrug. I haven’t seen many of them made up on the internets, but this pattern is genius. You only need 80 centimeters of fabric and the sizing system is so nice.

Ik ga alleen de oksels wat nauwsluitender maken de volgenden keer 🙂

Maar behalve dat is de pasvorm erg goed. Ik gebruikte een katoenen tricot, en dat ging prima. Het resulteerde in een lekker comfortabel vestje.

But other than that the fit is just fine. I used a cotton lycra knit fabric, and it sewed up just fine. It gave me a very comfortable little cardigan.

De lengte aan de achterkant is perfect. Ik denk dat ik een volgende keer kijk of ik de onderkant van de voorkant (snap je het nog 🙂 ) ook recht kan maken in plaats van dat het wat naar boven krult. Misschien met een extra knoop er dan nog bij… Hmm, allemaal mogelijkheden!

The back length is just perfect. Maybe next time I’ll try to make the front straight too. Add an extra button then too. Hmm, all the possibilities!

Garderobe basics naaien, dat geeft toch wel een ander soort voldoening als frivole jurken. Een soort onafhankelijkheidsgevoel. Wat is zelf kleren kunnen maken toch fijn!

Sewing wardrobe basics is satisfying in such a different way than fancy dresses. It makes me feel all independent. Oh sewing, how I love you!

Toen ik laatst mijn kledingkast opruimde kwam ik een kort colbertjasje tegen. Ik herinner me nog dat ik het kocht, in de paskamer leek het heel leuk maar toen ik thuis kwam bleek het toch een of twee maten te groot. Een beetje jammer, en naar het Leger des Heils ermee dus. Maar ik kreeg er wel een idee van, om zelf zo’n kort jasje te maken. En dan eentje die iets minder netjes was, want mijn kledingstijl is nou eenmaal niet heel netjes.

The other day I was cleaning out my closet and I found this cropped jacket. I remember buying it, in the fitting room it looked great but when I got home I realised that it was one or two sizes too big. Too bad, it went to the Salvation Army. It got me this idea though, to make a cropped jacket myself. And then one that was a little more casual, because that is more my style.

Het patroon dat ik gebruikte komt uit de Simplicity naaimode. Wat een fijn tijdschrift is dat toch om mee te werken. De naadtoeslagen zitten bij het patroon aangetekend en bij de werkbeschrijvingen zitten voorbeeldplaatjes. Voor mij werkt dat een stuk prettiger dan tekst. Het patroon (Simplicity 2442) is ook los verkrijgbaar, eigenlijk is het een bolero voor bij een galajurk. Maar met dit oudroze spijkerstofje en de voering van de kringloopwinkel ziet het er niet zo ‘gala’ uit gelukkig 🙂

The pattern comes from ‘Simplicity naaimode’. I like working with this magazine, because unlike other magazines the seam allowances are added to the pattern pieces and the instructions have these little pictures. That works really well for me. This one is also available as Simplicity 2442. It’s a ‘special occassion’ pattern but in this pink denim fabric with lining from the trift store it is suitable for ‘multiple occasions’ 🙂

Het is een lekker simpel patroontje, slechts 3 patroondelen. Het kraagje zit aan het voorpand vast. Ik maakte een maatje 38, die past prima alleen de mouwen zaten te ver naar de buitenkant. Dat ‘probleem’ heb ik wel vaker, terwijl ik toch echt geen opvallend smalle schouders heb. Ik heb ongeveer een centimeter van het armsgat afgehaald, behalve aan de onderkant. Dat was al een stuk beter. Op de foto zie je dat er toch iets nog niet helemaal goed past bij de armsgaten. Maar hé, dat zit aan de achterkant en dat zie ik toch niet. Dus who cares?

It’s a simple pattern, only 3 pieces. The collar is part of the front bodice. I made a size 12, which fits fine. The only problem was with the sleeves, they were too far to the side. It’s a ‘problem’ I experience often. And my shoulders are really not that small. I fixed this by cutting off a centimeter from both armscyes, that made it much better. The photo shows that there still is something going right in the armscye, but that’s in the back and I don’t see it. So who cares?
